TOURISM EXPERT TAKES CHARGE AT OAKWOOD THEME PARK
The new man in charge of Oakwood Theme Park says he’s relishing the chance to take the helm at one of Wales’ premier visitor attractions.
Swansea-born Gary Davies is among the country’s leading tourism experts with huge experience at every level of the industry.
Prior to taking on his new role at the Pembrokeshire attraction he was Regional Strategy Director / CEO of the highly acclaimed South West Wales Tourism Partnership (SWWTP).
He was also Head of Marketing and PR at the National Botanic Gardens of Wales and has an MBA from Cardiff, University of Wales.
“I’m delighted to take on this exciting new role at Oakwood Theme Park. I’ve worked closely with the team here in my previous job and been highly impressed with the ongoing investment and development programmes which have been put in place,” said Gary.
“My challenge is to build on that success and to look at new ways to take the business forward. I believe Oakwood has huge potential to grow and develop over the coming years and that’s why I was so keen to accept this new role,” he added.
A fluent Welsh speaker, Gary lives in Carmarthenshire and is married with two grown-up children.
During his tenure at SWWTP he initiated the ‘Dylan Thomas Centenary’ campaign in 2014 and also helped it gain the European Union’s ‘Exemplar of Tourism Excellence’ status for strategic planning.
Gary also has more than a decade’s experience working for the National Trust and has represented tourism on a wide range of related bodies including the Swansea City Region Task Force, the Welsh Association of Visitor Attractions and the Wales Activity Tourism Organisation.
Aspro UK’s Sue Elaiho said she was thrilled to welcome Gary to the team.
“Gary is one of the most experienced and capable marketers currently working in the tourism industry and brings with him a huge level of expertise,” she said.
“I am very much looking forward to working with him and the team to take Oakwood Theme Park to the next level,” she added.
Set in 90 acres of spectacular countryside Oakwood is Wales’ biggest family adventure attraction with more than 30 exhilarating rides and amazing experiences to discover.
A unique combination of attractions includes world-class roller, tower and sky coasters, spectacular family rides, children’s themed play areas and so much more.
