Oakwood Theme Park Sponsors Pembroke Teacher’s Bid For GB Duathlon Glory
Oakwood Theme Park is sponsoring Pembroke teacher and triathlete Sion Jenkins’ bid for glory at an international duathlon event in Denmark in May.
Sion, who works as a teacher at Golden Grove Primary School, is competing for Great Britain in the 2016 ETU Powerman Long Distance Duathlon European Championships on May 8th in Copenhagen.
For the 29 year old, who is originally from Cresselly, the Copenhagen race will be the pinnacle of his athletic career to date.
“Representing Great Britain is a massive privilege, so I am grateful to everyone who has supported me with this event,” he said.
“Oakwood’s sponsorship will allow me to purchase the Team GB kit that is needed for the trip. The whole event is self-sufficient and athletes are required to pay for everything themselves.
“Tenby Aces Cycling & Triathlon Club have also helped cover the cost of my triathlon suit, which will be worn on race day and Oakwood’s contribution, has allowed me to purchase the training/race day kit to wear to Copenhagen,” he added.
Sion completed his first triathlon in 2013. He then set himself the challenge of completing 12 different events in 12 months, culminating with Ironman Wales in September.
He took part in IM Wales again in 2014 and last year travelled to the Canary Islands to compete in Ironman Lanzarote.
Oakwood Theme Park’s Natalie Hunt said: “We’d like to wish Sion the very best of luck for the race in May.
“He kindly came down and helped with the warm up for our Sport Relief Mile in March and we’re delighted to be associated with such a fine, local athlete,” she added.
