Ambassador to donate shirts to charity

A pair of autographed bike shirts belonging to Olympic cyclist Geraint Thomas MBE are being donated to a local charity by Oakwood Theme Park.
The Cardiff-born 25-year-old has been official ambassador for the Pembrokeshire park in 2011 and he donated the two shirts; a Welsh national top and a Team Sky one, which have both been autographed.
The prized shirts have been donated to the Swansea branch of Headway, a national charity set up to give help and support to people who have experienced head injuries along with their families and carers.
Headway’s Melanie Lewis said: “We’d like to take this opportunity to thank both Oakwood and Geraint for their very kind donation.
“We will be raffling the shirts off at a special Charity Show on October 7th and we’re sure they will help to raise of money for Headway.
“Within the Swansea group as well as offering advice and understanding we also run lots of activities which are free to those who use our service.
“The branch is run entirely by volunteers but in order to run our groups and activities we continuously need to raise funds.
“Recently we have begun to run several new activities including a walking group, cinema group and arts and crafts group. These groups provide a vital service for those who attend and can often be a lifeline for those that find their lives have been affected by a head injury,” she added.
On Sunday Geraint was part of the victorious GB team which took gold in the Road Cycling Championships in Copenhagen.
He famously also won Olympic gold in the team pursuit at 2008’s Beijing Games and he is hoping to maintain his winning ways at next year’s London Olympics.
Oakwood Theme Park’s Andy Hygate said: “We would like to thank Geraint for his support over the year and for the kind donation of these two bike shirts which I am sure will help to raise much-needed funds for Headway.
“To have two signed shirts from one of Wales’ greatest ever cyclists is incredible and we’re sure they will attract a lot of interest at the charity show,” he added.
