AMERICAN COASTER FANS ENJOY DAY OUT AT OAKWOOD THEME PARK
More than 170 US rollercoaster fanatics enjoyed a day out at Oakwood Theme Park this week.
The group, American Coaster Enthusiasts, includes members from 32 of America’s 50 states as well as thrillseekers from Canada and Germany.
The visit to Oakwood is part of an 11-day tour of 14 of the UK’s top theme parks, including Alton Towers and Thorpe Park.
ACE’s Communications Director, Tim Baldwin, said: “For many of our attendees this is not only their first time to Europe but also the first time they have stepped beyond the US borders.
“Their excitement is off the charts. We’ve been keeping our fingers crossed for good weather so that we can make the most of this fantastic roller coaster journey.
“The UK has so many notable roller coasters. Some of them are quite legendary and we’re quite eager to take them on.”
For many the highlight of their trip was the chance to enjoy exclusive ride time on Megafobia, the park’s internationally-renowned wooden coaster.
Famed as one of the wildest wooden coasters on the planet, it has been voted the best ride in the UK and the 3rd best ride in the world by coaster enthusiasts from the Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain.
With a top speed in excess of 75 kph and 25 metre drops towards a lake combined with unique crossovers this twister has attained legendary status among coaster fans worldwide.
Oakwood Theme Park’s Clare Stansfield said: “The American Coaster Enthusiasts certainly lived up to their name and we thoroughly enjoyed playing host to them.
“As well as Megafobia they spent the day exploring every inch of the park and were happily spotted riding on a number of the rides in our Neverland children’s area!
“We wish them well for the remainder of their UK trip and hope to welcome them back soon,” she added.
